SYNOPSIS OF THE BITSY STORIES:
Bitsy is the main leaf character in the following four stories or chapters.
Like all the leaves on a tree, this tiny leaf emerges from its terminal bud
awakened by the warm spring rain. Bitsy is very inquisitive and curious.
He first notices another bud much bigger than he is. This bud is soon
named Big Leaf and the tiny leaf is later named Bitsy. The first chapter
begins with Bitsy asking many questions of Big Leaf. The questions
involve all the beauty surrounding the apple tree and what happens as
the apple tree changes throughout the seasons of the year. Also, a little
girl named Cassie notices the two leaves growing together – especially
the tiny leaf. She also has a friend named Gregory who has no interest
in watching leaves on a tree! Playing baseball with Cassie is his main
objective. At the conclusion of the story, Bitsy finally concedes to follow
in the “stemprints” of Big Leaf.
In chapter two, the winter is over and Bitsy is picked up by the wind and
thus begins another adventure. This time, with Miss Maple whom Bitsy
greets very happily. Miss Maple is not friendly at first but they eventually
bond and help one another in different ways. They spend the winter
together but as spring approaches Cassie and her mother are raking up
the leaves. Cassie believes she recognizes a little bitsy leaf. Puts it in
her pocket while all the other leaves are trashed – including Miss Maple!
Thus, Bitsy finds out what it is like living in a house and getting lost in a
school classroom. Cassie finds Bitsy and carefully carries it home. As
Cassie passes by the apple tree she pauses and exclaims to the leaf,
‘this is where you came from’ as a gust of wind blows Bitsy high up into
the air.
Chapter three fulfills all of Bitsy’s wishes as he is blown into town in
front of a fancy hotel. As people enter, he is sucked inside where he
meets an old oak leaf. Bitsy, always giving names to his friends, calls

him Mr. Oak Leafroy. Bitsy has a scary adventure here but is reassured
by the veteran oak leaf not to be afraid. They in turn are blasted out the
door by a blustery wind into a torrential storm. A stream of water carries
them to a sewer where Mr. Oak Leafroy gets stuck but Bitsy falls
through. In this frightful sewer, Bitsy encounters a fearsome rat, a
hungry spider and two terrified bugs! What an adventure they have
flowing through to the end of the sewer pipe. After resting on a log, the
bugs leave Bitsy. Sadly, but understandably Bitsy continues his journey
determined by the wind. Bitsy ends up back in the apple orchard on a
pile of dying leaves. There is a surprise ending here!
In Bitsy’s dream chapter four culminates with all of Bitsy’s friends having fun playing games, meeting new friends and learning to be compassionate, kind and not giving up when troubles arise! Bitsy being compulsive finds himself in difficult situations. All of this is possible because the leaves have wings but the wings can be lost if… Well, you have to read the story to know the ending. Sit back, get comfy and enjoy Bitsy leaf and friends in all their NEW adventures!

Bitsy and Big Leaf

This fanciful story unfolds as Bitsy begins asking Big Leaf questions and gets in some trouble as it discovers what it means to be an apple leaf. The tree changes with the seasons bringing on further questions and awareness of what is to come.

Bitsy Meets Miss Maple and Cassie

Bitsy is carried by the blustery winter wind and lands near a maple leaf. It is important for Bitsy to know his new acquaintances’ names. Bitsy eventually becomes a close friend to Miss Maple as they spend the rest of winter and early spring under a fir tree. Something happens to Miss Maple but Bitsy is picked up by Cassie who in the first story watched Bitsy grow. He learns about Cassie’s school underneath her desk. The drama progresses and later on Cassie looses Bitsy as a strong wind blows it from her hand. Bitsy is finally free even if only blown by the wind.

Bitsy, Mr. Oak Leafroy and the Bugs

Bitsy is blown into the lobby of a hotel. He meets another character, Mr. Oak Leafroy. Eventually the two have an adventure floating down a stream. Bitsy falls through a drain but Mr. oak Leafroy becomes stuck on top. Bitsy is attacked by a nasty rat and caught in a spider web along with two friendly but sad bugs. A surprise frees them from the web and they fall into a creek. Bitsy saves the bugs, “Nitty and “Lady.” They float down the stream, landing near a fallen log and Bitsy has to bid them farewell. The wind picks up blowing Bitsy toward the apple grove. Yes, and an exciting event takes place at the end.

Bitsy’s Dream

Bitsy awakens and finds out he has green wings! He flies in a highway of flying leaves and notices the brilliance of their colored wings. Courage, not self pity is something Bitsy has to learn as he experiences many exciting adventures with Mr. Oak Leafroy, Plucky, Miss um- Plum, and Miss Oakla Hardstem, among other fine leaves. The main thrust of the story is that Bitsy and Big Leaf finally meet again in a joyous reunion of all the leaves.
